The author describes the dual extremes of “strumming banjos-crooning mammies and violence, lynching, rape and miscegenation” in her book, sparing no details – but incongruously including delightful Southern recipes. The inscribee, Claude Moore, a successful physician and Northern Virginia landowner who left most of his fortune in trust for the purpose of enhancing educational opportunities throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. Chipping and rubbing to jacket, else good.
