Affectionately known as “the mother of Peruvian food”, she founded the renowned restaurant El Rincn Que No Conoces (“The corner you dont know”), in a working-class neighborhood of Lima, receiving acclaim within and outside of the country as one of the chief proponents of traditional coastalcriollocuisine. She refused to be called a chef, preferring the more humble designation of “cook.”
