A monthly gastronomical almanac for the year 1854, with chapters for each month describing seasonal produce and dishes. The section on service is illustrated by a few copper-engraved plates depicting set tables the French way and the Russian way. Imperial Russian cuisine at the time was considered one of the highest in the world.
In March of that year, France and England declared war on Russia, and the Crimean Warseverely damaged Russia’s image as a European superpower.
Chipping and tears to extremities of wrappers; faint stains to upper margins of title page & first couple pages, still very good.
